GARDENA — A poetry performance book event will be cerita lucah tuaheld Sunday, March 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Hall of the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162ndSt. in Gardena.
Genie Nakano, poet, columnist, and GVJCI’s yogini and tanka sensei, will read from her latest poetry collection, “Storyteller.”
A Sansei born in East Los Angeles, Nakano (http://genienakano.com) experiments with movement, dance and music when performing at open mics and spoken-word events. Her poetry appears in The Rafu Shimpoand The Gardena Valley News. She is widely published in journals, and her recent haibun, tanka/tales book “Enter the Stream” is available on Amazon.
Joining Nakano from Australia will be Amelia Fielden, a professional translator of Japanese literature and an enthusiastic writer of tanka in English. Also performing will be musicians Alan Furutani (flute) and Trace Fukuhara (percussion).
