Gardena Buddhist Church and its Forward Project are hosting a dance benefit to raise much-needed funds to improve their aging Social Hall and facilities.
The Social Hall was built almost 50 years ago, and other than necessary repairs and some modest updates, it stands as it was back then.
In preparation for GBC’s 100th anniversary in 2026, the church will be undertaking a major remodel of the interior of the Social Hall. Along with major esthetic updates, the building, including its kitchen, will be remodeled and updated to be L.A. County Health Department certification compliant. The access to the stage, bathrooms, and handicapped parking will also be updated to be ADA (Americans with Disability Act) compliant.
The dinner/dance will be held at Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 815 First St. in Little Tokyo, on Saturday, May 17. Doors open at 6 p.m.; music and dancing start at 7:30 p.m. The event will include live music by the band Kokoro, line dancing lessons, door prizes and an opportunity drawing.
There are many opportunities to support this event and Gardena Buddhist Church. Sponsorships to help offset costs of the event are available. Individual tickets are $75 and tables of 10 start from $750, $1,000 and $1,500. For those who are unable to attend but wish to support this project, donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.
