The public is invited to celebrate another successful Nisei Week Japanese Festival on First Street (between Central and San Pedro streets) in Little Tokyo with ondo dancing and closing ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. with a special taiko performance by Yuujo Daiko, followed by the traditional ondo or street dancing.
Everyone, young and old, is encouraged to come out and dance. It will be a fun time for all, whether dressed in yukata (Japanese summer kimono) or in shorts and a T-shirt.
The 2014 Nisei Week choreographers are Fujima Kansuma and Fujima Kansuzu, who choreographed two dances for the Grand Parade, “Hinode Ondo” and “Fuyumi no Soran.”
The nine onto dances are: “Kyushu Tanko Bushi,” “Kagoshima Ohara Bushi” (mountain style), “Aizu Bandai San,” “One Plus One,” “Shiawase Samba,” “Asadoya Yunta,” “Sho Tokyo Ondo” (fan dance), “Hokkai No Abarenbo” and “Bambutsu no Tsunagari.”
Additionally, Minyo Station will perform live dance music.
