May 27: “Three Came Home” (1950) at 5 p.m. During World War II, American author Agnes Newton Keith (Claudette Colbert) is imprisoned by the Japanese in various POW camps in North Borneo and Sarawak. Hayakawa plays Col. Suga.

“The Bridge on the River Kwai” (1957) at 7 p.m. British POWs are forced to build a railway bridge for their Japanese captors in occupied Burma, not knowing that Allied forces are planning to destroy it. Hayakawa received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Col. Saito, the camp commandant.
